Lassnig

Maria Lassnig

  • Maria Lassnig is an Austrian artist born in 1919 who’s art has been referred to as “abstract impressionism in action.” Her focus has, for most of her career, been on the human form in what she calls “body awareness.” She was the first woman to win the Grand Austrian State Prize in 1988
  •  At the biennale Lassnig exhibited a few gesture oriented figurative paintings. the colors in her paintings seemed reminiscent of impressionist painters of the 19th century. Although I am not sure as to or "if" her painting are telling a story but it seems to me that they are centered around the expression of our bodies and how we react towards our surroundings.
