Jack Whitten
- American artist Jack Whitten was born 1939 in Alabama. He became apart of the civil rights movement during the bus boycotts but moved to New York due to the increasing violence in the south. While in New York he joined the Cooper Union and graduated with a degree in fine art. He is known for his expressive abstract style of painting pushing the bounds of his medium.
- At the Biennale Jack presented a massive acrylic and mixed media painting entitled 9-11-01, 2006, presumably a tribute to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers. The nature of the piece is evocative, expressive and emotional. At first glance a burning pyramid or strongly foreshortened building stretching out into the sky.
