Angola

  • Luanda, Encyclopidic City, was Angola's national pavilion. It features many artists from and associated with Angola (twenty one in total). Although Angola had an impressive and thought provoking exhibit the part that is most talked about in the art community was the bottom level featuring artist Edson Chagas a photographer. Her photos were meant to show how infrastructure changes, as an unlikely city becomes a more prominent site of commerce; thus the title of the exhibition and the winner of the golden Lion. Though to me it was the latter part of the Pavillion "Angola em Movimento" was a far better portrayal of artists and art of Angola.
Sources: All sources for the National Pavilions comes from my own experiences at the Biennale or from official brochures given out at the exhibitions.
