Papa Ibra Tall
- Born in 1935 in Senegal Tall is an important leader of contemporary African art. He studied at the school of Architecture and fine art, Paris. He then began illustrating book covers then moving on to his preferred medium of tapestry. Once Senegal won Independence Tall returned to his native county were he became a leader of African decorative arts.
- Ibra Tall certainly has a style of his own and from what I remember he was the only artist at the biennale who worked in tapestries. to me his ornate work of threads and color seem in many regards like a painting. His style of art is very fluid, colors melting into form, form giving way to shapes and the unidentifiable. Tall's use of blacks and strong bright colors gives a chiaroscuro feel to his compositions.
