Jean-Frédéric Schnyder

  • Jean Schnyder born 1945 lives in Zug, Switzerland he  is a Swiss artist known for portraying the word he sees in a humorous and sometimes contradictory manor. His preferred medium is oil on canvas though his has made short films and other forms of art.
  • Schnyder was one of my favorite painters at the biennale, I liked the way he handeles the paint to produce a Van Gogh-esk paint film, then elaborating on that style to give a trompe l'oeil depth to his compositions, such as in the painting to the right. I also saw in his art a resemblance to, in my opinion an enjoyable cartoon (not that his work is cartoon like) being that it is simple easy to look at yet if you pay attention stronger more in depth themes appear here and there.
